Portrait of NX32153 Private (Pte) Frederick James (Scotty) Durward, 2/3 Pioneer Battalion. Born at Stonehaven, Scotland, Durward worked as a labourer prior to enlisting on 14 June 1940 at Bowral, NSW. While serving in Palestine Pte Durward died of illness on 4 February 1943, aged 29. He was buried at Heliopolis Military Cemetery, Egypt.
