Studio portrait of 24227 Engine Room Artificer 4th Class (ERA4) Robert Henry Hill, HMAS Sydney II, of North Edwardstown, SA. He was one of 645 crew who were killed during the HMAS Sydney's engagement with the German auxiliary cruiser HSK Kormoran on 19 November 1941, aged 26. ERA4 Hill's father, 6571 Private Harry Rogers Hill, 27th Battalion, had served during the First World War and was killed in action in Belgium on 26 September 1917. His brother, 407768 Flight Sergeant Ronald James Hill, No. 18 Squadron RAAF, was later killed on operations over Darwin on 5 April 1943.
