Studio portrait of 1051 Private (Pte) (later Corporal (Cpl)) Joseph John Bald, 12th Battalion, of Scottsdale, Tas. A painter before enlisting on 17 September 1914, Pte Bald embarked from Hobart with A Company on HMAT Geelong on 20 October 1914. He was killed in action in France on 19 August 1916, at the age of 21.
