Studio portrait of 407219 Flying Officer Philip Gardner Brooks who was a 23 year old from Wattle Park, South Australia when he enlisted in the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) on 17 August 1940. While serving with 13 Squadron RAAF, he was flying in a Lochheed Hudson aircraft when he was killed on 22 May 1942 in a flying battle over Ambon. He is buried in the Ambon War Cemetery, Indonesia. One of 86 photographs displayed on an honour board showing members of the Adelaide Rowing Club who enlisted for active service in the Second World War. The original is held by the Adelaide Rowing Club who kindly loaned the board to the Australian War Memorial for copying.
