Studio portrait of 1030 Private (Pte) Glenton Stuart Victor 'Glen' Morphett, 10th Battalion who was a 24 year old bank clerk from Adelaide when he enlisted on 5 September 1914. He embarked for overseas from Adelaide on 20 October 1914 aboard HMAT Ascanius. Following training in Egypt, the 10th Battalion was part of the covering force for the ANZAC landing at Gallipoli on 25 April 1915 and so was the first ashore at around 4.30am. The battalion was heavily involved in establishing and defending the front line of the ANZAC position. Pte Morphett was killed in action on 29 April 1915 and his name is listed on the Lone Pine Memorial, Gallipoli, for those who have no known grave. One of 131 photographs displayed on an honour board showing members of the Adelaide Rowing Club who enlisted for active service in the First World War. The original is held by the Adelaide Rowing Club who kindly loaned the board to the Australian War Memorial for copying.
