Portrait of WX14744 Private (Pte) Thomas Higham Pearse of North Fremantle, WA. Enlisting in the Second AIF in July 1941, Pte Pearse served with the 2/11 Battalion in the Pacific campaign. He was killed in action at Wewak during a Japanese banzai charge on Hill 710 on 15 May 1945, in what was described in the unit war diary as "the toughest battle we have had in New Guinea". He was aged 31.
