Studio portrait of 414988 Flying Officer (FO) Ronald Henry Buchan-Hepburn of Cairns, Qld. A clerk before enlisting in the RAAF in December 1941, FO Buchan-Hepburn trained as a pilot in Australia and Canada under the Empire Air Training Scheme (EATS). He was posted to 224 Squadron RAF where he flew B-25 Liberators on bombing missions against German U-Boats in the English Channel. FO Buchan-Hepburn failed to return from a sortie on the 7 June 1944, and was later listed as killed on operations, aged 21.
