Studio portrait of 5072 Private (Pte) Arthur Henry Ryder, 28th Battalion, of Balmoral, NSW. A station master in Western Australia before enlisting on 3 March 1916, Pte Ryder embarked from Fremantle on HMAT Seang Bee on 18 July 1916 with the 13th Reinforcements. He was killed in action by a bomb dropped by an aeroplane, while being relieved from the front line on 1 June 1918 near La Houssaye, north of Amiens. He was 32 years old at the time of his death.
