The body of a dead German, in the foreground, lies near the ruined church. During the capture of the village and its surroundings some days earlier by troops of the 6th Infantry Brigade, the 21st and 23rd Battalions, engaged in mopping up, experienced some hard fighting at close quarters in the vicinity shown in the photograph.
