Description
Pre-war studio portrait of 7831 Gunner (Gnr) Frederic Murchison Priddle, 5th Field Artillery Bridage, of Double Bay, NSW. With six months service with a Field Artillery CMF unit in Sydney, Gnr Priddle enlisted in September 1915 and left Australia for Egypt with the 5th Brigade Ammunition Column in November 1915 and arrived in France in March 1916. A medical orderly attached to the 15th Battery, Gnr Priddle's battery was firing in support of Australian troops at Pozieres on 30 July 1916 when a round from an 18 pound Howitzer behind Gnr Priddle prematurely exploded. Wounded in the back and chest from shell fragments, Gnr Priddle died moments later, aged 20.
