Studio portrait of 406736 Sergeant (Sgt) William Llewellyn Scanlan,who served with the 2nd Bomb Squadron, 22nd Bomb Group (known as the "Red Raiders"), 5th Air Force, United States of American Air Force, based in Townsville, Qld, between 1942 and 1945. Originally of Perth, WA, Sgt Scanlan enlisted in March 1941. He was killed on 17 December 1942, when a crew member of a B-26 brought down during a flying battle over New Guinea.
