Original grave marker of 2648 Lance Corporal (LCpl) Thomas Scott at Peronne Communal Cemetery Extension, France. A Scotsman who emigrated to Australia in 1900, Thomas Scott spent six years in the Light Horse milita at Glen Innes before enlisting in the AIF in August 1916. A married man with a child, LCpl Scott left Australia in August 1916 as part of the 5th Reinforcement group of the "New England's Own" 33rd Battalion. He was second in command of a machine-gun section during the attack on Peronne on 30 August 1918 when he was hit and killed by a machine-gun bullet after climbing out of a shell-hole, age 32.
