John Lewis Prichard Sim, as a Sergeant 39th Battalion, New Guinea, 1942-1943, recording his recollections of being a prisoner of war, for author Peter Brune as research for his book, 'We band of brothers : a biography of Ralph Honner, soldier and statesman'.
Part one: John Sim starts speaking at 35 seconds into the recording, recalling the lack of rest, food and medicine. illness and weakness of troops in the 39th, and the comaraderie and between the members which helped them survive. At 12.24 he introduces himself by his full name and birth date, and introduces and describes various officers in his battalion including Colonel Connolly, Doctor Shearer, Nobby Hill and Major Findlay.
