Collection relating to the Second World War service of 418644 Flight Sergeant Christopher Joseph Deutscher, Royal Australian Air Force, the United Kingdom and Egypt, 1943-1944.
Wallet 1 of 1 – Consists of three airgraph letters and accompanying envelopes from Flight Sergeant Deutscher to his friend, former employer, and neighbour Ewen Husson. In his letters, dated between 21 November 1943 and 18 June 1944, Flight Sergeant Deutscher writes about the cold weather in England, English women, hearing news of bushfires at home, doing an advanced flying course in Scotland, his impressions of Egypt, and his expectations of future service.
Flying Officer Christopher Joseph Deutscher enlisted to the Royal Australian Air Force on 29 May 1942. He trained in Australia, the United Kingdom and Egypt as a wireless operator and air gunner. On 5 September 1944, while training at the Royal Air Force Station at Gianaclis, Egypt, Flying Officer Deutscher was killed in an air accident. He is buried at Chatby Military and War Memorial Cemetery, Alexandria, Egypt.
