History / Summary
Leslie Norman Holmes was born at Wallumbilla in Queensland on 5 August 1914. He was working as a farmer when he enlisted on 30 June 1940 at Toowoomba, Qld, as a private with the service number QX10342. He served with 2/47 Transport Platoon and spent most of the war in Australia, including nearly two years stationed in Darwin, from February 1942 to end of January 1943. Holmes embarked for Morotai on 11 April 1945, where he spent nearly two months before being posted to British North Borneo on 1 June. He spent six months in North Borneo, embarking for return to Australia from Labuan on the Manoora in December 1945. He was discharged on 21 December 1945.
