Description

Studio portrait of 3039 Private Alexander Fleming 9th (later 49th) Battalion of Ipswich, Qld. Son of John and Margaret Fleming. A motor-driver prior to enlisting, he embarked from Brisbane aboard HMAT Warialda (A69) on 5 October 1915. He was killed in action on 3 September 1916 near Pozieres, France, aged 21. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Villers Bretonneux Memorial, France.
