Description

Studio portrait of 1803 Acting Sergeant (Sgt) Allan Montrose MacDiarmid, 30th Battalion, of Croydon, NSW. An accountant prior to enlistment, Acting Sgt MacDiarmid embarked with the 2nd Reinforcements from Sydney on HMAT Berrima (A35) on 17 December 1915. He later transferred to the 45th Battalion reaching the rank of Lieutenant (Lt). On 5 April 1918 Lt MacDiarmid was killed in action in France, aged 27.
