Royal Canadian Air Force sweetheart necklace and earrings : Mrs M A Lentz
Necklace and pair of earrings made from perspex. The necklace is made of three perspex hearts on a gold metal chain. The centre heart has a small metal and enamelled RCAF pilot's wings embedded in the perspex. Each earring is made of a small perspex heart, but both are missing the hooks/clips.
Necklace and earring set belonging to Mrs Martha Adina Lentz. Mrs Lentz was a widow, who worked with her sister as a cook at the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) Station at Claresholm, Alberta, Canada during the building of the hangers at the station, probably in early 1941. The jewellery was a gift from an airman stationed at Claresholm. The RCAF Station Claresholm was the home of 15 Service Flying Training School for advanced pilot training. It was opened on 9 June 1941 and remained open as a Empire Air Training Scheme base until March 1945. Some Australian pilots completed their training at Claresholm before being posted to Bomber Command in England.
