Description
Collection relating to the Second World War service of 24054 Able Seaman Ronald Matthew Vogt, HMAS Sydney, 1941. The collection consists of four handwritten letters, from Vogt to his mother Florence and father Joseph; describing his travel from Melbourne to Sydney; his work on HMAS Sydney; travel around the Pacific, Southern, and Indian Oceans; and to Singapore, Java and New Caledonia. His letters describe the cities and towns he visited, with particular emphasis on the churches where he attended Mass. The collection also includes two condolence letters (one is not signed) written to his parents following his death on the sinking of the HMAS Sydney on 19 November 1941.
