Souvenir des tranchèes de CHAMPAGNE 1914 - 1915 [Souvenir of the trenches of Champagne, 1914 - 1915]
Description
Depicts two French soldiers relaxing in the trenches. The soldier with the moustache, the protagonist, is having the newspaper read to him by the bearded soldier, who is smoking a pipe. The title of the paper is 'Le Jouray(or Jourai)'. They both look very relaxed, and the trench seems to be quite cosy. One soldier's 'squad boiler' - a container in which they held their food, is placed on an improvised fireplace, and in the background is an entrance into one of the dugouts.
