As 216790 Corporal Raymond James (Ray) Armstrong looks on (left), 213121 Sergeant Leslie Ernest Fielding (right) of 1 Platoon, A Company, 8RAR, and another unidentified member of the platoon steady a harness chair carrying 1735523 Private (Pte) Roland Patrick Lister as he is winched up by a medical evacuation helicopter hovering out of sight overhead. The chair and cable attached to it are together known as a jungle penetrator. Pte Lister is one of six platoon members who were wounded by a rocket propelled grenade (RPG) round fired by one of two Viet Cong soldiers who walked into a platoon ambush the previous day. The incident occurred during Operation Atherton, a reconnaissance and ambush operation in the northwest of the province and the battalion's first in Vietnam.
