Mackintosh's Caramel Toffee tin with embedded bullet : Corporal L Cowlishaw, 55 Battery, Australian Field Artillery, AIF
Description
Tall oval sweets tin with separate lid with red and gold wash finish. The tin is titled 'Mackintosh's Caramel Toffee', with the maker's name in a scroll at the base. The design is repeated on both sides. One side of the tin has been punctured and distorted by a rifle round which still remains embedded in the tin. There is mild corrosion present over the surface of the tin.
History / Summary
Related to the service of 979 Corporal Leo Cowlishaw, a 24 year old station hand who enlisted on 25 January 1915 and was discharged on 31 October 1917. Cowlishaw served with 14 Australian Field Artillery Brigade in France.
