Description

Iraqi building contractors working on a partially constructed veterinary center, being built as a CIMIC project. On the right is a sign written in Arabic and a stylised red kangaroo, these signs were erected at each CIMIC project to inform the locals what was being built and who was helping. CIMIC worked with Iraqi civilians to undertake projects within their villages such as building and restoration of roads, irrigation, power plants and water supply, as well as schools, community centres, veterinary centres, slaughter houses and ambulance and fire stations, and usually paid local contractors to complete the work. The CIMIC team consisted of three members, all of whom are part of the Army Reserve, and were usually accompanied by a four man infantry bodyguard, however at this time they were also accompanied by Military Policeman, Warrant Officer Class 1 Greg Westhead, who undertook a more discrete security role.
