Warrant Officer Class 1 (WO1) Greg Westhead demonstrates the correct way to detain and search a suspect on a volunteer to members of the 603rd Battalion, Iraqi Army, during a training course in detainee handling. The Australian Army Training Team, Iraq, along with Lieutenant Colonel Oswald and WO1 Greg Westhead conducted training classes in detainee handling and management. WO1 Westhead was the detainee manager for civilians and his main duties were training Australian soldiers in detainee handling, stopping and searching as well as the legal requirements of detainees and the United Nations requirements. No detainees were taken at the time, so he also spent time undertaking close protection for the Civil-MIlitary Co-operation (CIMIC) Team. CIMIC worked with Iraqi civilians to undertake projects within their villages such as building and restoration of roads, irrigation, power plants and water supply, as well as schools, community centres, vetinary centres, slaughter houses and ambulance and fire stations.
