A member of the Iraqi Police Tactical Support Unit (TSU) seated at a general purpose machine gun on the rear tray of a Police vehicle, at the compound of the 603rd Battalion, Iraqi Army, in As Samawah. The Australian Army Training Team, Iraq, along with Lieutenant Colonel Oswald and Warrant Officer Class 1 (WO1) Greg Westhead travelled here each day for a number of days to conduct training classes in detainee handling and management with 603rd Battalion. WO1 Westhead was the detainee manager for civilians and his main duties were training Australian soldiers in detainee handling, stopping and searching as well as the legal requirements of detainees and the United Nations requirements. No detainees were taken at the time, so he also spent time undertaking close protection for the Civil-MIlitary Co-operation (CIMIC) Team. CIMIC worked with Iraqi civilians to undertake projects within their villages such as building and restoration of roads, irrigation, power plants and water supply, as well as schools, community centres, veterinary centres, slaughter houses and ambulance and fire stations.
