Studio portrait of Lieutenant George Hurry, 15th Battalion of Kyneton, Victoria. A bank clerk prior to enlisting, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Berrima (A35) on 28 June 1915 as 6850 Driver Hurry, 10th Company Australian Service Corps. While in the field, he was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant. On 18 October 1917, aged 32, he was killed in action at Zonnebecke, Belgium, while in charge of a wiring party. He was buried near Zonnebecke, Belgium but post war his grave was not located and he is remembered with honour on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
