Memorial locket in souvenir box
Rose gold heart shaped locket with black enamelled face. Picked out in gold lettering are the words 'IN MEMORY OF'. Inside the locket the left side contains a black and white photograph of a soldier. The photograph shows only his face but he appears to be wearing a slouch hat. The other side of the locket contains a plaited lock of fair hair. The locket is stored within a lacqured wooden box lined with dark red velvet and a piece of white felt. The box has a hinged lid and is secured with a tiny brass hook latch on the front. The top of the lid displays a sepia photograph of a sea side village with the name 'TIGHNABRUAICH' below it. Tighnabruaich is a village on the west coast of Scotland.
The history of this locket and the soldier it commemorates is unknown. It was found at a church fete in Sydney and presented to the Memorial in 1984.
