History / Summary

Banner designed to be attached to the cavalry trumpet (see RELAWM30892.001), one of a set of six silver trumpets belonging to the 13/18 Hussars, which were formed by an amalgamation of the 13th and 18th Royal Hussars in 1922. The original engraving on the bell relates to the initial 1922 presentation of this trumpet by Mrs Moller in memory of her husband, Lieutenant Colonel Moller, who had seen service in the Boer War and First World War. This trumpet was then used to sound the Last Post and Reville at the opening of the Australian War Memorial at Tobruk in 1948. Arrangements were made by the Australian War Memorial Board for a replacement presentation trumpet to be forwarded to 13/18 Hussars in exchange for this example.
