Starboard side view of the United States Northampton class heavy cruiser, USS Chicago (CA-29) in the waters off Guadalcanal Island where she was engaged in the Battle of Savo Island. On 9 August 1942, hit by a Japanese destroyer's torpedo, USS Chicago fought heavy damage while continuing to engage until contact with the enemy was lost.
