Description

A row of three M113A1 Fire Support Vehicles (FSV) at the Headquarters, 1st Australian Task Force base at Nui Dat. Identified from left: 218180 Trooper (Tpr) John Albert Wailes and 217990 Tpr Kenneth William Johnson. These vehicles have been modified with the addition of turrets taken from Saladin armoured cars. Each FSV carries a crew of three (commander/loader, driver & gunner) and are armed with a 76 mm gun with a co-axially mounted .30 calibre L3A3 Browning medium machine gun (MMG) and pintle mounted .30 calibre L3A4 Browning MMG. The first vehicle in this group has the call sign four two Charlie (42C) and belongs to A Squadron, 3rd Cavalry Regiment, Royal Australian Armoured Corps.
