Studio portrait of 6589 Sergeant ( later 2nd Lieutenant (2nd Lt) George Leopold Sanders Trotman, 7th Battalion of Albert Park, Victoria. A school teacher prior to enlisting, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Nestor (A71) on 2 October 1916. On 17 April 1918, he was wounded in action near Hazebrouck, Northern France and died of his wounds that day, aged 30. 2nd Lt Trotman is buried in the Hazebrouck Communal Cemetery.
