Studio portrait of 2616 Private (later Lance Corporal) William Edwin Ernest Perry, 59th Battalion of Orbost, Victoria. A school teacher prior to enlisting, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Nestor (A71) on 2 October 1916. On 16 October 1917, when the Battalion was defending Tokio Ridge, Belgium, he was killed in action, aged 24. He has no known grave and is remembered with honour on the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, Belgium.
