Description
Studio portrait of 11768 Gunner (later Corporal) George Jones, 2nd (later 14th) Field Artillery Brigade of Port Melbourne, Victoria. A school teacher prior to enlisting, he embarked from Melbourne aboard HMAT Themistocles (A32) on 28 January 1916. On 2 August 1917, he was killed in action in Northern France during an artillery barrage directed toward the German lines in the Frenzenberg - Zonnebeke road area, Belgium, aged 25. He is buried in the Vlamertinghe New Military Cemetery, France.
