Description
Toothed bicycle cog, found at the site of an ambush at Bakri crossroads in the early 1960s.
History / Summary
Japanese infantry units exploited the speed and mobility of the bicycle extensively in their Malayan campaign. This bicycle cog was recovered by Warrant Officer Balsillie from the site of a major action at the Gemencheh Bridge (14 January 1942), along with other battlefield items. B Company of the 2/30th Battalion under Captain Desmond Duffy initiated the ambush before withdrawing towards Gemas.
