Merchant Navy sweetheart brooch : Assistant Engineer L E Elliott
Description
Sterling silver and enamel sweetheart brooch with attached safety chain. The brooch takes the form of the Merchant Navy badge showing 'MN' in red enamel on a green enamel ground within a silver reef knot surmounted by a silver naval crown. The badge is mounted on a plain silver bar with brooch pin attachment and is impressed on the back 'STG SIL'.
History / Summary
This brooch is associated with the service, in the Merchant Navy, of Leo Edward Elliott, who was born in Sydney in 1921. His first engagement in the navy during the Second World War began on 2 April 1942. He served as a 4th Officer (Assistant Engineer) on a number of ships. His last engagement was on 15 June 1945.
