Description
Surprise attack is the standard tactic of the Viet Cong (VC), so members of the RAAF contingent at Vung Tau, are issued with personal weapons. They practice regularly on the rifle range at a beach about two miles from the air base. Armalite rifles, pistols and a variety of other weapons are on issue to the RAAF men. A target’s eye view of 217728 Flight Lieutenant (Flt Lt) Cecil John Fowler, of Earlwood, NSW, Adjutant of No 35 Caribou Squadron, RAAF, as he keeps his eye in with a .45 calibre pistol on the rifle range. Flt Lt Fowler had previously spent three years in Hong Kong attached to the RAF. He currently works as an interpreter for the RAAF.
