Description
Surprise attack is the standard tactic of the Viet Cong (VC), so members of the RAAF contingent at Vung Tau, are issued with personal weapons. They practice regularly on the rifle range at a beach about two miles from the air base. Armalite rifles, pistols and a variety of other weapons are on issue to the RAAF men. The M16 Armalite rifle, known as ‘the little black rifle’ that the VC fear, is one of the weapons RAAF men in Vietnam learn to handle. 25038 Corporal (Cpl) Ronald N (Ron) McNamara, of Downer, ACT, (left), sights his Armalite rifle, as 110387 Leading Aircraftman (LAC) Kenneth Mervyn (Ken) Bennetts, of Rockhampton, Qld, (right) looks on.
