BREATHE ON EYEPIECE AGAIN AND POLISH VERY LIGHTLY WITH THE CLOTH SO THAT A THIN EVEN FILM OF THE COMPOUND REMAINS'. Stamped on both caps is 'No248III/ UCCoPtyLtd/ -/6/39'.
This tin of outfit anti-dimming Mk V is associated with the service of John Grieves Dyson in the Victorian ARP during the Second World War. John Dyson lived in Geelong and during the war, with his brothers, owned and ran a foundry that manufactured wool scouring machines for use in knitting mills that produced wool for soldiers' uniforms. Anti-dimming outfits were used to prevent condensation in respirator eyepieces. The compound was applied to the inside of the eyepiece and caused the moisture to form a clear film which did not interfere with vision.
