Description
In the 1st Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (1RAR) camp on the Korean truce line, 33214 Sergeant (Sgt) William Francis (Bill) Hacking of Thornbury, Vic, supervises the erection of a familiar street sign by a Korean labourer. All the roads in the 1RAR camp are now sign posted with the names of well known Australian streets, and this 'Little Collins Street' is only about one hundred yards from the banks of the Imjin River, scene of much bitter fighting during the Korean War. Sgt Hacking has been with 1RAR continuously since 1951, and is now doing his third tour of duty in Korea. He was a clerk in the Native Affairs branch at Darwin before he joined for Korea.
