In the main office of the military police in East Timor, probably in Dili, four members of the Australian-led International Force for East Timor (INTERFET) crime scene investigation team, discuss their work. They are: Staff Sergeant Shayne Towers-Hammond, Australian Army (front, left); Corporal Mark Anderson, New Zealand Military Police (front, right); Dr Parente, Brazilian pathologist (rear, left); and an unidentified Brazilian soldier. The men have been working on the exhumation of bodies of East Timorese massacred at Liquica. In April 1999 up to 200 people were murdered at a Liquica catholic church by members of the pro-Indonesian militia, and Indonesian soldiers. After the massacre, many of the victim’s bodies were moved from the church area, in an attempt to hide the scale of the atrocity.
