Description
It's mail call in the jungle, and that's when a letter from home is very welcome. Here, 3/5125 Lance Corporal (later Corporal) Fred Airs, 21, of Portland, Vic (left) hands a letter to 3/4608 Private (later Lance Corporal) Kev O'Meara, of Windsor, Vic (right). The man waiting for his mail in the centre is unidentified. The men are with 10 Platoon, D Company, 2nd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (2RAR) and have been involved in the pursuit of a group of Communist terrorists through the jungle of Perak for the past 12 days. The men have been re-supplied by RAF helicopters which also bought in the mail. Pte Omeara served in Korea with 3rd Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (3RAR) from 1953-1954.
