As a defiant act of bravura during Operation Cung Chung II, Lieutenant Colonel Ron Grey, the Commanding Officer of 7 Battalion, The Royal Australian Regiment (7RAR), uses his Sioux ('Possum') observation helicopter to plant a metal flagpole and the pennants of his battalion and supporting arms on the highest point of the Long Hai hills on the occasion of 7RAR's 5th birthday, 1 September 1970. The pilot of the helicopter is 1200952 2nd Lieutenant David Herbert Earley of 161 (Independent) Reconnaissance Flight.
