Description

Ten RAAF ground crew stationed at Bien Hoa near Saigon, are combining with Australian Army technicians and pilots in a ‘keep the aircraft flying’ programme which has earned them the respect and admiration of their American colleagues. The RAAF tradesmen belong to the 161 Independent Reconnaissance Flight which has been actively engaged in an operational role in Vietnam since September 1965. The Flight covers resupply, visual reconnaissance, liaison, radio relay and casualty evacuation using their two Sioux helicopters. The remainder of the Fight consists of two Cessna light aircraft. The RAAF men, along with their Army colleagues are housed in tents at Bien Hoa airfield.
