Description
Destroyed coast artillery gun. A Turkish soldier sits on the remains of a Krupp heavy coast artillery gun destroyed by British or French shelling during the naval attacks. Despite the damage to the batteries, Turkish guns were able to defeat two attempts to break through the Dardanelles. The Turkish gunners were not short of ammunition and, contrary to the view traditionally taken by the attackers, could have met a renewed naval attack.
