Adjusting Lath : EM 34 Stereoscopic Range Finder
Flat rectangular steel adjusting lath for use with the EM 34 range finder. The lath is camouflaged in a German three colour scheme of sand yellow, green and red brown. It has two recessed fold-out stainless steel support legs, one of which splits into a 'V' shape. At each end of the lath are two white aiming rectangles which are 700mm apart from centre to centre. Inboard of the white rectangles are two 13mm diameter sighting holes. In the centre of the ranging board is a prismatic glass viewer with a glass aperture fitted to the top and front of the ranging board. There is an engraved black bakelite plate, secured by six screws, fitted to the front centre of the ranging board.
The adjusting lath was used to adjust and test the EM 34 range finder. This type of unit was used by German machine gun, mortar and some artillery units during the Second World War.
