Officer's Royal Artillery pattern full dress sword belt
Description
Officer's Royal Artillery pattern full dress sword belt. The black leather belt is covered with gold bullion artillery pattern lace and fastens with a gilded brass buckle showing on each side a lion above a Queen Victoria crown. A snake headed clasp impressed 'UBIQUE' holds both sides of the buckle together. One end of the belt is folded back on itself and is held in place by a gilded brass slide. There is a gold lace keeper in front of the slide to secure the tongue of the belt when it is fastened. Gilded brass fittings are attached to the lower edge of the belt for the attachment of sword slings.
History / Summary
Unknown. This pattern of belt was also worn by officers serving in the permanent artillery in the Australian colonies until 1901.
