Turkish soldier's cap
Description
Turkish soldier's soft cap made from coarse khaki serge, with an unbleached calico lining. The cap is made in two sections, each with a long 'tail'. The sections are sewn together longitudinally to form the crown, which is further shaped over the top of the head by three pairs of darts. The tails fold back at the front and around the side to form a triangular flap on each side of the back of the neck, then cross over and fold inside one another, meeting at the centre front. They are secured to the cap with large running stitches at the front, back, and the centre of each side.
History / Summary
Said to have been designed by Enver Pasha, this example of a Turkish soldier's cap, was collected in Palestine by the Australian War Records Section in 1918.
