History / Summary

Tunic was given to the Australian War Memorial by the Government of the United States. The collar disc indicates that the uniform belonged to a soldier in the 108th Infantry Regiment.

The 108th infantry regiment, 27th division (formally the 3rd New York Infantry) was originally a National Guard Regiment that saw action in a number of conflicts, including the Civil War and the Mexican Border dispute of 1916 before World War I. The 108th embarked for Europe in May 1918 and took part in the Somme, Ypres-Lys and Flanders offensives.
