Knitted vest : Warrant Officer A K Hutton, 2/3 Field Ambulance
Khaki woollen vest hand knitted in stocking stitch with a ribbed waistband. The vest has a v-neck which overlaps at the front and square shaped arm holes, both of which are also finished with a ribbed knit.
Worn by QX4085 Warrant Officer II Arthur Hutton. Hutton, from Brisbane, Queensland, was born in October 1914 and enlisted in the Army on 22 October 1939, a few days before his 25th birthday. He served with 2/3 Field Ambulance in both the North African and Pacific campaigns and continued to serve in the regular army after his discharge from the AIF on 31 August 1947. The vest was sent to him in a Red Cross parcel on his return to Australia from North Africa. It did not see much wear during the campaigns in the Pacific, but became a well loved piece of Hutton's wardrobe during his post-war career.
