Lieutenant Justin Parker, of 7 Platoon, C Company, 2nd Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment ...
Lieutenant Justin Parker, of 7 Platoon, C Company, 2nd Battalion, the Royal Australian Regiment (2RAR) speaks on his radio at Malu’u village in northern Malaita. Behind him, local children play soccer. The region around Malu’u had been the scene of violence and unrest, due to the activities of armed militia groups such as the Malaitan Eagle Force (MEF), prior to the arrival of the Regional Assistance Mission to the Solomon Islands (RAMSI). RAMSI established police posts throughout the Solomon Islands, including three on the island of Malaita. Military support for these posts was provided by military forces from RAMSI participating nations, including Australian forces deployed under Operation Anode. The police post at Malu’u was opened on 19 September 2003.
